Frequently Asked Questions
Will sleep training traumatize my child?
Short answer: No! Research shows that responsive sleep-training methods do not cause trauma or long-term harm. Sleep training isn’t about leaving your child to cry alone - it’s about helping them learn to fall asleep in a new, healthy way that feels safe and sustainable for your family. With consistency and a plan that fits your child’s needs, sleep training can strengthen confidence, reduce stress, and bring more rest to everyone!
Will there be any crying involved?
Babies don’t like change, so some crying while teaching them an entirely new way to fall asleep is normal! Even though all of their needs may be met (warm bed, dry diaper, full belly), crying is their way to express frustration that they are not being rocked or nursed to sleep. While I know firsthand how difficult it is to hear your child cry, with my coaching and your consistency, the crying will be short-lived with long-lasting benefits!
Does sleep training mean I will have to wean at night?
Absolutely not, only if your baby is developmentally ready and you want to! If night weaning is something you’d like to do, sleep training will naturally support that.
Can I sleep train my newborn?
I do not recommend formal sleep training for babies under 3 months. Rather, if you are interested in support for your newborn, I offer sleep shaping as a way to build a healthy sleep foundation since day one, while ensuring you respond to all of their needs.
Does sleep training work if my child is in daycare?
We cannot control what we cannot control. Because sleep training involves a comprehensive look at daytime and nighttime sleep, it can be a bit more challenging if your child is in daycare but not impossible! By managing expectations and tweaking your schedule at home, we can still ensure restful nights.
Does sleep training guarantee that my child will never struggle with sleep again?
I wish I could tell you sleep training is a “cure all” for your child’s sleep needs. My goal, while working together, is to teach your little one enduring habits that are sustainable for everyone, but the truth is, life happens. One day, they’ll get thrown off by illness, vacation, or even a new sibling. What sleep training will do is empower you and your child with the confidence and tools to get back on track when the inevitable happens. And if you ever need additional support down the road, you can always schedule an “ask me anything call” to help you get back on track.
We’ve tried everything, what if it doesn’t work?
Making a big change, whether it’s starting a new routine, shifting a habit, or trying something completely different, begins with the right mindset. It’s the same for your child’s sleep! Stay positive, have patience, and commit yourself to the process and let me handle the rest.
